Rocks Drop Game 1 of Semi Final

The Jr. B Tier 1 Shamrocks took to the floor at the Q Center Sunday looking to take game 1 of the best of 3 league semi final from the visiting Coquitlam Adanacs but it was not to be as they fell 10-5.

Starting goaltenders were Matthew Denis for the home Shamrocks and Ben Thibault for the visitors and it was Coquitlam jumping out to a 4-0 lead early, Tanner Hayden getting in close to find twine at 4:09. Charlie Robinison followed up with an unassisted marker at 5:20 and at 7:58 Matty Dane made it 3-0 with the teams playing 4-on-4. Xander Freeman added another at 9:34 before Victoria managed to solve Thibault. Theo Munroe got one in off the post at 13:21 and at 17:48 Breckyn Williams got the home team within a pair, a short-handed marker that came on a run off a loose ball pick-up from Parson Shahi. That made it 4-2 for the visitors after 20 minutes.

The second period saw only 3 goals scored, 2 by the Shamrocks but again it was Coquitlam opening the scoring just 1:30 in, off the stick of Adam Dane Victoria replied at 6:39 when Benson Hunt made some good work around the opposition net pay off and Landon Lockwood drew the home team within a goal with a power play marker at 19:51. The Adanacs still had the lead but only by a single goal, 5-4 as the teams headed to the dressing room.

The game got away from the Shamrocks in the third as Coquitlam rattled off 3 straight goals before Cole Leung connected for Victoria’s 5th goal on a run but the Adanacs added a pair late to take away the 10-5 victory.

Breckyn Williams had a goal and an assist in the losing cause with Ronin London and Parson Shahi each picking up a pair of helpers. Leading Coquitlam was Kai Hartley with a pair of goals and 4 assists.

Game 2 of the series will be played in Coquitlam Tuesday at 5 pm with a third game, if necessary back at the Q Center Wednesday, July 16 also a 5 pm start.
