Shamrocks Win Eighth Straight
The Tier 1 Jr. B Shamrocks put their 7-0 record on the line Saturday at the Q Center, taking on the Coquitlam Adanacs. Their record remains perfect as they came away with a 14-7 victory.
Starting in goal for Victoria was Matthew Denis, while Noah Fletcher got the nod for the visitors. It was Coquitlam hitting the scoresheet first, Bowen Church getting in off the opening faceoff just 10 seconds in. It didn’t take long for Victoria ato reply, Landon Lockwood scoring on the power play at 53 seconds, a shot that bounced around in the crease and went in off the goalie’s back. At 1:38 the Rocks took the lead on a Ripley Wyker shot off a rebound in front. The Adanacs got that one back at 7:41 off the stick of Oscar Hicik and took a 1-goal lead at 9:28 when Adam Dane found twine after Denis got a piece. Cody Junghans got the home team even again at 10:25 and notched his second, finishing some good work in close on the power play at 15:44 to make it 4-3 Shamrocks. The teams traded goals to finish the period, Miles Psuty connecting for the Adanacs on the power play from outside the dotted line at 16:10 and Jordan Alexander restoring the 1-goal Victoria lead unassisted 30 seconds later.
Once again Coquitlam opened scoring in the middle frame, Dane getting his second from the dotted line at 1:53 with the man advantage. But the Shamrocks got on a 6-goal run, including 5 in a span of 1:40 beginning with Lockwood collecting his second of the contest at 5:42 on the power play. At 5:59 Cole Leung got in close on a run. Benson Hunt followed up at 6:20 with a hard shot from outside the dotted line. Alexander with his seond of the game at 7:30 and Hunt with his second off the ensuing faceoff at 7:19 made it 10-5 for the Shamrocks. Wyker with his second then extended the lead to 6 goals at 12:34 before Cole Davits got the Adanacs back on the board at 18:34.
Coquitlam scored first in the final period, Dominic Allegretto on a shorthanded breakaway at 8:46, but the boys in green notched 3 straight to close scoring, Anthony Chevalier getting in close on a run at 11:08. Jax Heavenor followed up at 13:11 taking a quick pass in front and Alexander getting his hat trick marker at 17:18.
Jordan Alexander led the offense with 3 goals while Jax Heavenor had a goal and 4 assists. Cody Junghans, Benson Hunt, Ripley Wyker and Landon Lockwood each contributed a pair of goals with the latter two adding a helper. Anthony Chevalier chipped in a goal and 2 assists and Cole Leung had the other Victoria goal. Sawyer McKay and Theo Munroe each had 2 assists and Matthew Denis made 17 saves to pick up the win in goal.
The Tier 1 Shamrocks are in New Westminster Sunday to take on the Salmonbellies but will return to the Q Center next Saturday at 12:30 pm when the visitors will be the Port Coquitlam Saints.
