Tier 1 Jr. Shamrocks Fall to 1-1

by Rod Wood

In the second game of the season, the Jr. Tier 1 Shamrocks saw their record drop to 1-1 with a 12-9 loss at home to the Coquitlam Adanacs Saturday.  The Rocks got the jump early, scoring a couple of power play goals to open up a 3-1 first period lead.  It was Nic Coleman getting the home team on the board first with a power play marker at 4:59, getting in close.  Less than a minute later, at 5:45, Casey Wilson added another goal with the man advantage with a quick stick from the dotted line.  At even strength, Denton MacDonald made it 3-0 for the guys I green at 7:034 with a hard overhand shot from outside the dotted line.  Before the period ended, the visiting Adanacs would get one back, Erik Forsselils tallying at 10:48 and that was all the scoring in the opening 20 minutes, sending the Rocks to the dressing room with a 3-1 lead.

Victoria made it 4-1 at 3:07 of the middle frame, Josh Pickford finding twine with a bullet from the dotted line.  That would be the first of 4 goals coming in a span of 1:27 as Coquitlam’s Forsselils added his second at 3:25.  Victoria replied with a goal off the stick of Connor Wilson at 4:12 on a give and go after a loose ball pickup.  A power play goal from Victoria’s Patrick Dodds opened up a 6-2 lead at 4:32 but the Adanacs got on a run after that, scoring 5 straight to take a 7-6 lead by the 16:25 mark.  Two of those goals came on power plays, the Shamrocks running into some issues.  The Shamrocks got things even at 18:55, Dodds collecting his second of the game, getting in close.

The third opened with Dodds getting his hat trick marker just 31 seconds in to give the Shamrocks a 1-goal lead but the Adanacs seemed to find another gear as they again rattled off 5 unanswered to take a 12-8 lead by 13:22.  Casey Wilson of the Shamrocks picked up his second of the night at 15:43 but that was as close as they could come.

Patrick Dodds led Victoria’s offense with 3 goals and 3 assists.  Casey Wilson contributed 2 goals and 3 helpers with single goals coming from Connor Wilson, Josh Pickford, Denton MacDonald and Nic Coleman, who also added a pair of assists.  The Tier 1 Shamrocks are on the road in Richmond Sunday, returning to the Q Centre next Saturday, May 12 when they will host the Delta Islanders.  Game time is 1:00 pm.
